One of my favourite youtubers Danielle Rae has spoken about Influenster for a long time but it has only been available in America up until recently. As soon as I found out it was coming to the UK I knew I wanted to be a part of it and signed myself up instantly. I filled out what felt like hundreds of reviews for products and resigned myself to the fact that I’d probably never hear from them until an email popped into my inbox to say I was going to be receiving a VoxBox of my own! Continue reading to find out more…! Bourjois is a highstreet brand that I have loved for years – they do one of my favourite base products ever, the Healthy Mix foundation, which I actually wrote about here. When I got the email to say I was going to part of the Bourjois campaign I couldn’t believe it. It is very rare that I will buy a full range of a product for review so I couldn’t wait.
The VoxBox contained full selection of Bourjois’ newest release, the Velvet Rouge lipsticks are something different for the brand, promising colour saturation and a bullet shaped to hug lips completely. Firstly, I love the packaging. I think it is a really sleek alternative to the black lipsticks they released a few years back. The packaging directly reflects the lipstick shade and this makes it really easy to pick them out of my makeup collection. The only downside is that I find these are really stiff to open!
Secondly, the shade range. I think the shade range of 12 colours captures a great spectrum of colours. There are a couple of colours that aren’t really my ‘thing’ but I have friends who would wear them and rock them. I love the more vibrant shades and a matte formula is my preference for these kind of colours. Application with these lipsticks is an absolute dream as they glide onto the lips. The bullet is almost tear drop shaped which really hugs the lip shape and enables you to make a really precise application. They feel like a lip balm upon application and have some of the softest and creamiest formulas I have ever experienced however these dry down so unbelievably matte. You honestly wouldn’t even think the finished look was possible simply due to the texture upon application. All shades appear to be uniform in texture and pigmentation too which is quite uncommon in drugstore ranges.
These last ALL DAY. I mean, literally all day. I haven’t found that they bled for faded unevenly. If your lips are quite chapped or dry then the lipstick may fall into the dry skin or creases in your lips but I’ve remedied this by applying a matte balm underneath (Nuxe Reve De Miel is my fave!)
L-R // 1: Hey Nude! // 2: Flamin’ Rose // 3: Hyppink Chic // 4: Hip Hip Pink // 5: Brique-a-brac // 6: Abrico’dabra // 7: Joli Carmin’ois // 8: Rubis Cute // 9: Fuschia Botte // 10: Magni Fig // 11: Berry Formidable // 12: Brunette.
For me the shades Jolie Carmin’ois, Fuchsia Botte and Magni-Fig are my must haves and are perfect for the change in season. Move over Rimmel 107! Brunette is surprisingly wearable for a dark brown shade and my favourite nudes of the collection is Hey Nude! These retail for £8.99 each in both Boots and Superdrug – I believe they may actually be on 3 for 2 at the moment aswell.
Have you tried these? If so, what did you think? I’ve also filmed a full lip swatch video over on my channel which I would love for you to check out!
Let me know your favourite shade in the comments!
