I really wanted to get away for a few days after the madness of the wedding so I left it in Chris’ capable hands to book somewhere for us to go. A couple of days after the wedding we piled ourselves and Malc the Dog into the car and off to Norfolk we went.
We pulled up beside one of the cutest cottages I’ve ever been to called The Borrowers. The cottage is owned by a lovely couple called Dalene and Alex who run Olde Farme Cottages. The Borrowers is a one bedroom cottage, decked out with all the modern necessities you’d need for a weekend away. We absolutely loved the cozy décor inside and the garden is incredibly well kept with a BBQ hut which you can use. Malc the dog loved running around the gardens, and as the owners have their own dogs too, he got to play with them.
When we arrived there was a selection of gorgeous treats in the fridge including freshly laid eggs from the cottage chickens, a bottle of prosecco, dog treats and a Just Married balloon, as well as some homemade scones and jam. This little touch really meant so much as they didn’t need to do this – it was very sweet of Dalene and Alex. There is a well stocked book shelf and DVD selection, a nepresso machine (my favourite!) a log burner and a large DVD. If you are someone who needs to be on their phone however, there is no signal (although there is wifi) so for us it was the perfect break away from the madness of home.
The bedroom is very minimal in its décor, with the beams doing all the talking. I loved the exposed wood of the room and the bathroom that you entered into too. The bathroom had a gorgeous free standing bath (we are on a water metre at home and never have a bath so you know I had one every day that we were there!) as well as a separate shower. I loved the gorgeous tiles that decorated the room – it was a statement without being too in your face. Everything in the cottage was done to the highest levels of quality and it made it such a warm and welcoming place to stay.
The cottage itself is in Banham which is a complete blink and you miss it village, but there are pubs in the neighbouring villages and also you’re not too far away from Norwich which has a host of different eateries. We actually made ourselves dinner one night whilst we were there and then went to the local pub the next evening. One thing to note is that the cupboards are stocked with basic spices etc which we found came in very handy!
We made the most of being relatively near the beach to take Malc for his first ever visit which was potentially the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. He absolutely loved it. I did actually vlog this whole trip so I’ll make sure to link it below although now I’ve got a better camera the quality makes me cringe!
Whilst the cottage is basically in the middle of nowhere, it is the perfect getaway for a busy couple who want a bit of peace and quiet. The whole cottage felt very tranquil and calm, and the fact that we could take the dog was an added bonus. The Borrowers is £110 per night or £550 for a week but if you are a slightly larger group then there is another cottage on the same plot called The Bees Knees which caters to for up to four people. I honestly feel it is was worth every penny as I enjoyed myself immensely.
I am completely converted to a staycation and hope that 2018 will be the year for them!
